Mr. Blanton was on the passenger train from harlan to lexington when the explosion happened and all traffic was halted in pineville until it was known what had happened because of the ground vibrations and smoke coming over the mountain. While sitting in Wallsend Station he became interested in what was happening and when he arrived in Broadhead, he started putting the words together and his son later put music to it.
