Joe Hatfield, Mine Explosion Victim (4/12)

Son of Joe Hatfield retired from the U.S. Navy and returned to Pineville to care for his Mother who passed away on 21 Dec 06 at 101 years young. Getting interested in the disaster anew and seeing some of the articles for the first time and especially the 4-part series in the Pinevile Sun started researching to find the true facts about which his father was a major player and who was the last survivor. Upon obtaining a copy of the official report from Washington, he set about researching and recalling what actually happened. He attempted to get the stories re-written and having failed obtained permission and had an objection printed in the Pineville Sun.
